HI,
I am looking for information on the William Blackmer Family. William came to Tampico about 1870 and married Louisa France 31 July 1870 in Morrison. They can be found in the 1900 census in Tampico. Children Lillie, William, Myrtle, Nellie,Charles, Clifford,Roy and Jean were all born in Tampico.Lillie is my direct ancestor.I would really like to know more about this family and the birth dates of the Children. I am also wondering if William's marriage or death record (he died in 1917) would have parents names on them. Thank you for any information or direction you can give. Becky

Becky,
I also emailed you an 1884-85 IA directory showing Wm. A Blackmer as a painter. After reviewing more census records on the LDS-FHL, I see it is NOT your William!. However, the gen-chart/pedigree listed on the LDS shows Louisa's parents. Her mother was Margaret - so the Margaret France listed as a neighbor on the census record I sent to you was most likely her mother.

I am researching the Blackmer name and those especially that live in Whiteside Co. Illinois. William Blackmer from the Prophetstown, IL area is my great-great-grandfather. His daughter, Laura is my great grandmother (her son Lowell is my grandfather). My dad was Bret (7/10/56-8/20/2000). If you have any tips I could follow, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Resources for you to explore:
LDS-FHL
www.familsearch.org

I have posted the nearest center to you above. Call ahead of time as it is provided by volunteers and may not always be open. They have a lot of IL information on site. They can help you check their data base for what is available. You can order films for census records, family histories, etc. These are then ordered from their Utah facility. When they arrive you need to view them on site. You can search their catalog on line at www.familysearch.org as well. You can search for surnames, place, keyword, etc. I posted an entry they have for Blackmer Family Bible above. Don't think this is YOUR Blackmer though.

We have a Wm. Blackmer biography posted on this site. Do a site-search for BLACKMER. As I am sure you know, the surname Blackmer has been spelled (and mis-spelled) differently through the years. If you do a surname search on LDS site, do not check the "exact spelling" - this will give you many different spellings available. May be helpful when searching census records as well.

SSDI on Rootsweb:
http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
You can order the original SS application - there will be a hyperlink to print out a form letter to use. Do NOT use the web site's "service" to order documents - They use an outside service and it costs much more than if you send for it yourself.

IL State Archives:
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html

IL Trails web site: (Covers all counties in IL)
http://www.iltrails.org/

If you know their church affiliation, you may be able to get copies of their birth/marriage/death information on all family members. Sacramental records often contain much more information than civil records.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if you need any more info or I can help in anyway. Both Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com offer FREE trials. I can also look something up for you.

Thank you. I have some futher generations back for Solomon. Do you have him married to Louisa A. Smith( Jan 1828 - 13 Aug 1851) on 15 Nov 1849 in Wayne, Ohio? He had one daughter with her before she passed on. I am sure you must have that Saul served in the 147th Illinois US Infantry - company G in the Civil War. That his headstone has the GAR emblem next to it.
I have that Saul had 5 siblings. Some are buried in the Erie and Fenton cemeteries.
We descend from Saul's daughter Minnie Belle. My husband's grandmother was Beatrice L. Redshaw Brown. She had 3 daughters two of who are still living (Francis and Rosie).

I went to school with Greg Blackmer (Erie). I was dating my now husband at the time and lo and behold Greg and he were distant relation and did not know it. We tried to get ahold of Greg for the class reunion we had but all letters to addresses we had for him came back to us. If you ever hear from him, let him know that we are looking for him. Class of '71. Thanks. If you come to the area, let us know as I know my hubby and his cousin who does alot of genealogy would love to connect and maybe help fill in the blanks for you if possible. You can email us at farmfamle2@yahoo.com. Merry Christmas

I live south of Ptown and west of Tampico now but my brother still lives in Erie. I was Debbie Leeds in school and now married to Dave Thormahlen. Your Louisa France married to William Blackmer was a sister to my husband's Minnie Belle France. That is our connection.

Oh that is very interesting! So you knew my uncle Greg.... Did you know my dad or mother (Michelle Simpson)? Both graduated from Erie.
