TAHS Website Updates for November 2007

Dec 1, 2007

Happy Holidays to all of you. We're going out with a bang,
thanks to great folks such as Melva Taylor, Mary Anne
Batten and Richard & Lois Wetzell. I think I have worn the
prints right off my fingers with all the typing, but I'm
not complaining! Check out all of the obits we have this
month. And I still have piles waiting to be transcribed!

A BIG THANK YOU to all who took the time to support our
request for a grant from Hamburger Helper. Unfortunately,
we did not receive any funds. However, we had the most
signatures from supporters! We'll try again in February. We
are scheduled to have the roof replaced in early Spring of
2008, so we will continue to have fund-raisers and
hopefully, we will continue to receive donations towards
this much needed project. We are almost half-way to our
monetary goal. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

As many of you know, we will be a part of the INP -
Illinois Newspaper Project. This is so exciting! Some of
the Tampico Tornado Newspapers have been micro-filmed in
the past, but we have several years that were never filmed,
including the 1876 issues! You can read more about the
project at the following URL:
http://www.library.uiuc.edu/inp/participant_results.php?location=Tampico%20Area%20Historical%20Society

I will not itemize the Calendar of Events in this
e-newsletter, but please visit our "What's New"? page of
website for current activities in the area. These events
are sent to the area newspapers, so if you would like your
organization listed, PLEASE submit them to me as early as
possible! The newspapers ask for a two-week lead! It is
also posted on site on the What's New page and the
CALENDAR. Be sure to include contact information.

The following is an awesome feature I am adding to the
site:

PICASA PHOTO ALBUMS
http://picasaweb.google.com/TampicoHistoricalSociety
I have started a group of photo albums
on Google's Picasa Web Albums. This is an off-site link.
One of the advantages is you can leave a comment under the
photo. You can also easily email them to others. After you
"open" the album of choice, click on the individual photos
to enlarge, read details and/or leave a personal comment.
(Unfortunately, our search engine will not detect entries
in these albums, but GOOGLE will)
