The Illustrations that appear here, were engraved expressly for this map, at a cost of thirty-five dollars each. The buildings represented are among the best in the County.

The portraits are of persons who settled here at an early day; they are all farmers and are all living in this County at the present time, except Col. Austin Bryant, who idied in January, 1866. Mr. Bryant was a brother of Wm. C. Bryant, the American poet.

A short biography of these persons might be expected, but their portraits speak for themselves.

It was the intention to have had a number of wood engravings, to illustrate different scenes connected with the early settlement, but the limited circulation of this work (being confined to the County) will not justify this expense. However, one will appear.
