Charity (nee Long) Walton Obit

Submitted by Dorrie Simon Dorrie writes: Attached is the portrait I had from my grandmother photos that was simply marked "Uncle Andy Walton" and then my grandmother had the attached photo labeled "Aunt Charity Walter - grandma's sister" which really through me for a loop. My grandmother was a Searl who married a Walter. The photo was taken in Hastings, NE and where my grandfather's uncle Henry Walter moved. Extensive research in NE yielded nothing on a Charity. But then I found the attached obituary of Charity WALTON (not WALTER) and I think this is probably the same woman. Charity would have been the sister of my grandmother's grandfather. Don't you think this is the same woman from the photos? OBITUARY Mrs. Andrew W. Walton Charity W. Long was born February 15, 1840, in Selby township, Bureau County, and died April 27, 1921, aged 70 years. 2 months and 12 days. She was married April 20, 1870, to Andrew W. Walton, of the same township, who survies her. To this union one son, Andrew W. Walton was born in 1878 and who died in 1904. She was the daughter of Henry H. and Mary A. Long, who came to Bureau County from Ohio in 1842, and was the last member of her immediate family. Mrs. Walton was a woman noted for her aried activities and energetic nature, know to her many and loyal friends as a generous dispenser of home hospitalities, deriving her chief happiness from the promotion of the enjoyments of social gatherings and her participation therein. The dictum of the Middle Age of Christianity, "Laboare est orare," was fully exemplified in the teaching and conduct of this practical Christian woman. The memory of her excellent work in shcool teaching is cherished by her former pupils who profited by her efficient discipline. Funeral servies, held at the Congregational church in Princeton, contucted by the Rev. H. J. Lee, Saturday, April 30, at 2:30 p. m., was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends from near and far. The impressive service of the O. E. S. ritual was recited at the burial spot in Oakland cemetery, Mrs. Walton being a devoted member of Chapter No. 164 for many years. She was laid to rest beside the grave of her dearly loved and deeply mourned son, Andrew.
