VERNA  M.  (Stern)  FOTZLER

 

Prophetstown: - Verna M. Fotzler, 73, of Prophets Riverview Center, Prophetstown, died Feb. 8, 1993, at the center.

 

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Jeffery Clementz officiating.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gardner Funeral Home, Prophetstown.

 

A memorial has been established.

 

Mrs. Fotzler was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Sterling, the daughter of Henry and Nettie (Obendorf) Stern. She was educated in Sterling area schools. She married Arthur Fotzler July 28, 1944, in Sterling. They were engaged in farming in Hume Township for many years.  During that time she was also employed by Lundstrom Florists in Sterling.  In 1962 they moved to Prophetstown where they purchased Hill Crest Greenhouse and Gift Shop.  Her husband died in 1977. She continued to operate the business until retiring in 1982.  She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown; the West Hume Club; Prophet Hills Country Club; was active in many civic activities; was presently serving on the advisory board of Prophets Riverview Center, and had founded the Prophetstown Avenue of Flags.

 

She is survived by three sisters, Edna Wolf and Esther Mayfield, both of Sterling, and Cassie Plautz of Prophetstown.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Eilers.
