ALEX  BOLHOUS

 

Prophetstown: - Alex Bolhous, 91, of Prophetstown, died Sunday at Resthave Nursing home in Morrison.

 

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Prophetstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Janes officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.   Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gardner Chapel in Prophetstown.  A memorial has been established to Self Help in Sterling.

 

Mr. Bolhous was born on Nov. 11, 1895 in Eenren, Netherlands, the son of Claus and Sylvalena Terweer Bolhous.  On Jan. 29, 1919 he was united in marriage to Anna Voss of Morrison in Morrison. The couple farmed in the Morrison area until 1930 when they moved to Prophetstown and continued farming until 1954.  The deceased served for many years on the Benton Street School Board and served two terms as a Prophetstown Alderman.  He was a former member of the Illinois State Champion Tug-O-War Team and helped organize the Prophetstown Men's Shuffleboard Group.

 

Survivors include his wife, Anna, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Bengston of Prophetstown and Mrs. Cyril W. (Nancy) Martin of Silver Springs, Md.; two sons, Claire of Prophetstown and Perry of Moline; also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by one son in infancy and three brotheers.
