Hugo M. Hecht, 79, Dies In Hospital

 

Prophetstown: - Hugo M. Hecht, 79, passed away Wednesday evening at the Sterling Community General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

 

Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist Church, Prophetstown, Saturday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Paul Olson officiating with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

 

Friends may call at the Gardner Funeral Chapel Friday evening from 7 to 9.  Masonic services will be held at the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the First Methodist Church.

 

Hugo M. Hect was born June 17, 1887 in Dueben, Germany, the son of Max and Maria Kaiser Hecht. He attended the Rock Island Schools and moved to Prophetstown from Moline in 1932.  He married Ida M. Daft of Prophetstown on April 17, 1937 in Dixon. He began work at the Eclipse Lawnmower in 1932 and retired in May 1959. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Prophetstown, Minerva Chapter OES.

 

He is survived by his widow, four sons, Edward of Moline; Waldemon, of Burlington, Iowa; Verne of Fort Collins, Colo.; Raymond of Rock Island; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Elaine) Studt of Rock Island; one brother, Walter, of Rock Island; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded by his parents, one stepson and one daughter.
