Mrs. Esther Allison
Mrs. Esther Elizabeth Ross Allison, 92, of 322 E. Second St., Mt. Carmel, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 4,1981, in St. Mary's Hospital iin Evansville, Ind. where she had been a patient for two and one-half weeks.

Mrs. Allison was born Aug. 2, 1888, on a farm near Tampico, Ill. (Whiteside County), the daughter of John and Inga Eck Ross. Her parents came from Vernamo, Sweden, to the United States after an ocean voyage of seven weeks.

She attended Geneseo Collegiate Institute before enrolling at Dixon College. Her education prepared for a career in teaching.She served as a teacher at Toulon, Ill. before coming to Mr. Carmel more than 65 years ago.

On June 1, 1911, she married Earl L. Allison at Dixon, where both were graduates of Dixon College. Mr. Allison was managing editor of the Daily Republican Register until his death on Juy 14, 1960.

Mrs. Allison was a member of the Swedish Pioneer  Historical Society, Inc., Chicago; Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carmel; the Ladies' Aid Society; and a life member of the Lutheran Church Women.

Surviving are a son, John Wayne Allison, Mt. Carmel; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth A. Coates, Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren,  Mrs. Margaret C. Polese, Santa Fe, N.M.,Mrs. Nancy C. Allison, Bloomington, Ind., David Coates, Caby, Ind., and Steven Coates, Indianapolis; also four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allison will be held at 4 p.m.Saturday at the Roy D. Shrot Funeral Homne with Rev. James Welton officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday and until the hour of the service on Saturday.
