Alfred Berge Dies at Rock Falls Tuesday

Alfred John Berge, 49, of Prophetstown died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the home of his sister, Mrs. Otto Teske of Rock Falls where he had lived the past 15 weeks. He had been in failing health for about two years.  The body was removed to the Gardner Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. CST Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Yorktown, the Rev. C. J. Gess officiating.  Burial will be in the Yorktown Cemetery.

Mr. Berge was born January 9, 1899 in Yorktown Township, the son of Henry and Anna Katherine (Fenning) Berge. He was educated in the Yorktown schools and attended a mechanic's school at Kansas City, Mo.  He moved to Prophetstown about 30 years ago. He was married to Thelma Newell of Sterling.  He was a mechanic for the late Louis Hansen who was then a partner with Lysle Soliday in a implement shop, and later was employed by Scott's Electric Shop.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Teske, Mrs. Bertha Hilger of Prophetstown and Mrs. Herman Yonk of Yorktown, and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Mrs. Lena Johnson.
