Tampico - Wesley H “Corky” Broers, age 67, formerly of Sanford, North Carolina and Tampico, Illinois died Tuesday March 29, 2011 at Rex Rehab and Nursing Care Center in Apex, North Carolina.

Corky was born on July 16, 1943 in Princeton, Illinois, the son of Wesley G. and Mary Jane (Gesslein) Broers. He retired as a Major in the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the military he was a corporate pilot for several corporations. His careers took him all over the world. He was a member of the Elks Clubs in Sanford, North Carolina and volunteered at the Christian United Outreach Center of Lee County in Sanford, North Carolina. Corky enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with his numerous friends.

Wesley is survived by one son Wesley Stephen (Ashley) Broers of Sanford, North Carolina; two grandchildren Tyler Broers and Lea Yarborough of Sanford, North Carolina; one sister Jane (Rich) Roesslein of Tampico, Illinois; one niece Mary Jane (Mike) Verhulst of Sterling, Illinois; two great nephews Anderson and Jackson Verhulst of Sterling, Illinois, his boat family of Apex, North Carolina and his numerous friends in Sanford, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Stephen Broers.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday April 9th at 11 a.m. at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church Tampico, Illinois with Msgr. Thomas Dzielak officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery Walnut, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Tampico. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY TO CHRISTIAN UNITED OUTREACH CENTER OF LEE COUNTY P.O. 2217.
