MARIE  VERHULST
 
Mrs. Marie Verhulst, 90, 2412 W. Science Ridge Road, Sterling, died Thursday afternoon at the Sterling Care Center after a short illness. 

Funeral services will be held Monday with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. at the Grennan Funeral Home. The mass of the resurrection will be 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  The Rev. Richard Russo will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.
 
Mrs. Verhulst was born July 18, 1893 in Meulebeke, Belgium. She came to the United States in 1921 and married Alfons Verhulst on July 24, 1921.  They farmed near Ottumwa, Iowa, until 1942 when they moved to rural Prophetstown to continue farming.
 
Survivors include five sons, Joe, Ottumwa, Iowa;  George and John, both of Sterlling;  James, Maryland Heights, Mo.; and Ernest, St. Charles, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. Maurice DeWitte, Shullsburg, Wis.;  Mrs. Charles DeWitte, and Mrs. Adolph Wambeke, both of Moline;  and Mrs. James Behan, Orion; one brother Charles Madden, Belgium; two sisters Germanie Landuyt, Lyndon Station, Wis.; and Margrette VanTorre, Norwick, Ontario, Canada; 39 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951.
