Mr. Samuel Emmons died at his residence south of Tampico, Sunday, Feb. 29th of a disease resembling appoplexy or epilepsy. Aged 66 years, Mr. Emmons moved from Ohio to Illinois in 1839 locating in Coloma where he resided until a few years ago when he moved near Tampico where he has since lived. Mr. Emmons had possession of his senses to the last and made all the arrangements for his funeral.

The services were performed by Rev. J.T. Mason, assisted by Rev. H.A. Smith at the Baptist church of this city Tuesday March 2nd. A large number of relatives and friends of the deceased attended the services. Source: Sterling Gazette Saturday Morning March 6th 1880
