Bernadine M. Elgin

TAMPICO – Bernadine M. Elgin, 86, of Tampico, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Manlius, the daughter of Andrew and Marie (Behrens) Anderson. Bernadine was united in marriage to Vernon Elgin on Dec. 8, 1951, in Kewanee. She was a member of Tampico United Methodist Church. Bernadine was an avid bingo player, crocheter and crafter. She loved making dinner for her family every Sunday. 

Bernadine is survived by her husband, Vernon of Tampico; four sons, Ronald (Anita) Elgin of Tampico, Darryl (Karen) Elgin of Rock Falls, Marvin (Charlene) Elgin of Hatley, Wis., and Lauren (Sue) Elgin of East Moline; 12 grandchildren, Erin, Jamie, Wendi, Sherry, Josie, Shelly, Gwen, Jeremiah, Sarah, Rebecca, Lane and Ryan; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice; and two brothers, Nels and Robert. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Esther Lee, pastor of Tampico United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
