John L. Bumphrey

HENDERSON, Nev. - John L. Bumphrey, 79, of Henderson, formerly of Mount Carroll and Milledgeville, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Clearview Health and Rehabilitation in Henderson.

John was born July 22, 1934, the son of William and Dorothy (Taylor) in Neponset. He attended Annawa High School with the class of 1952. John worked as a dairy farmer and as a union carpenterfor many years. John married Joyce Ruth Weaver on July 4, 1954, at United Methodist Church in Tampico. Joyce passed away Oct. 25, 2002, in Polo.

John was a member of the Illinois Carpenters Union and Community Baptist Church of Milledgeville. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, and traveling the U. S. Most  of all, John enjoyed time spent with his friends, and family. 

John will be dearly missed by four sons, Ronald (Vicky) Bumphrey of Savanna, Donald Bumphrey of Henderson, John (Elaine) Bumphrey II of Pearl City, and William (Ronda) Bumphrey of Mount Carroll; two daughters, Connie (Ken Gilland) Bumphrey of Mount Carroll and Penny (Charlie Perce) Kramer of Henderson; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Bumphrey of Rockford and Jerry (Christel) Bumphrey of Las Vegas; and four sisters, Doris (Wayne) of Tampico, Alice (Bert) Cornstubble of Rock Falls, Mary Jane (Norden) Scanlan of Tampico, and Kathryn Scanlan Haller of Franklin Grove.

John was preceded in death by his 3ife, Joyce; one daughter, Diane Bumphrey, in infancy; a sister, Marjorie Landsidel and his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Community Baptist Church in Milledgeville. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in rural Sterling.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois for the Sauk Valley.
