Tampico - Bette L. Sherman, age 89, of Tampico, Illinois died Friday, January 31, 2014 at her home in Tampico.
Bette was born on April 21, 1924 in Tampico, the daughter of William and Esther (Spotts) Schultz. She was united in marriage to Norman Wetzell in 1944 and he preceded her in death. She then married John Sherman in Tampico, Illinois on September 6, 1969. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1999. Bette worked at the Northwestern Steel and Wire Company in Sterling, Illinois. She was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle at the church where she served as treasurer and Royal Neighbors. Bette was known not only for her love of flowers and gardening but also for her exceptional skills at sewing, tailoring and quilting. 
She is survived by one son Ronald (Cynthia) Wetzell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren Ethan, Galen, Scott, Jeri and Amy; 9 great grandchildren , Oliver, Morgan, Franklin, Hailee, Boyce, Deric, Cody, Luke, and Keefer; and one brother Gary Schultz of Belvidere, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sons Charles and Michael, one granddaughter , three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday11:30 a.m. at the Tampico United Methodist Church in Tampico with the Rev. Leanne Keate, pastor officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling on Monday. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Tampico United Methodist Church. A memorial has been established to the Tampico United Methodist Church. Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico.
