Tampico - Shirley A. Tompkins, age 78, of Rock Falls, Illinois died Friday, October 31, 2014, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling, Illinois.
Shirley was born on February 26, 1936, in Yorktown, the daughter of John and Lula (Harrison) Franks. She was united in marriage to David Tompkins on April 12, 1952, in Rock Falls, Illinois. She worked at Jack Mabley Center for several years as a mental health technician. She was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, going to the boat and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband David Tompkins of Rock Falls, Illinois; three sons David C. Tompkins of Tampico, Illinois, Dale D. (Rhonda) Tompkins of Prophetstown, Illinois, Paul A. Tompkins of Tampico, Illinois; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers Laverne (Bobbie) Franks, Clarence (Christine) Franks both of Rock Falls, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by one son John, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, officiating. Burial will be in Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Vitas Hospice. Condolences may be sent to: www.garlandfuneralhome.com.
