Robert E. “Bob” Hill

Robert E. “Bob” Hill, 88, of Prophetstown, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.

Born January 28, 1926 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin he was a son of Ebenezer and Matilda (Freier) Hill. He was united in marriage to his life-long sweetheart, Marjorie Shaw on December 31, 1948 in West Chicago, Illinois. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage together, He was a carpenter with Local 558 for more than 50 years, retiring in 1976. He later worked for Starr Machine Tool Company from 1977-1995. Following his retirement from Starr he continued to do odd jos for friends and neighbors throughout the years.

Bob served his country honorably during WW II in the South Pacific in the US Army Air Corps, as part of the 5th Air Force. In 1945 he served on a B24 Liberator Bomber in the 50 Calabor Tail Gunner Position. He flew on many combat missions during that time period off the island of Okinawa, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was proud of his military service and was glad he had the opportunity to serve his country.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Marjorie, of Prophetstown; his children, Barbara (Mike) Feltes, of Elburn, Karen (Fred) Burmester, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Robin Goodenough of Prophetstown, Michael Hill of West Hills, California and Kurt Hill and his fiancée Patty Shady, of Mankato, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death b his parents, four sisters and a brother.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Family services will be at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
