ROCK FALLS – Gene Janssen, 79, of Rock Falls, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Regency Care of Sterling.
 
Francis Eugene Janssen was born June 15, 1936, in Prophetstown, the son of Edward and Ethel (Gerdes) Janssen. He was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. He married Georgia “Marlene” Cox on July 31, 1961, in Sterling. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2009. Gene had worked for 22 years for the city of Rock Falls in the street department; drove for Burger Trucking; and worked for 5 years for the Montmorency Township road commissioner. Gene was a member of Rock River Rabbit Breeders, and enjoyed talking with folks at coffee, or wherever he might be found.
 
Surviving are two daughters, Rhonda (Rich) Kasper of Cumming, Georgia, and Missy (Terry Behn) Franzen of Miles, Iowa; his sons, Roger (Chris) Janssen of Rock Falls, Rod (Rachell) Janssen of Spring Valley, and Steve (Missy) Janssen of Maquoketa, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
He also was preceded in death by a son, Randy; and two sisters, Beverly Als and Anita Schroeder.
 
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Porter officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
