Daryl C. Smiley, age 76, of Tampico, IL died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Unity Point Health in Rock Island, IL.

Daryl was born on September 29, 1939, in Joliet, IL the son of Clyde and Helen (Meredith) Smiley. He was united in marriage to Judy Washburn on June 1, 1968, in Bloomington, IL. He was a coach and educator for 50 years that included teaching at Mount Carroll for 3 years, Tampico High School for 28 years, and Sauk Valley Community College for 17 years. Daryl was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church and he played slow pitch softball for many years. He was inducted into the IHSA Hall of Fame in 1996.

He is survived by his wife Judy Smiley of Tampico, IL; three children Maryl (Chris) Brennen of Villa Hills, KY, Ellen (Travis) Hanrahan of Prophetstown, IL , Mark (Penelope) Smiley of Hartland, WI; eight grandchildren; one sister Sue (Tally) Girard of Shorewood, IL; one sister in law Joanne (Jack) Latimer of Inyokern, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Tampico United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leanne Keates pastor officiating.

A Time of Sharing will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tampico Elementary School gym, 304 East Kimball Tampico, IL. A memorial has been established to the Tampico United Methodist Church and the Tampico Fire and Ambulance in lieu of flowers. The Garland Funeral Home of Tampico is handling arrangements.
