Darrell Robert Zigler of Ladd, born Sept. 11, 1950, in Sterling, passed away after a valiant three-year battle with esophageal cancer May 19, 2016, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Darrell lived his final days, as he had his life, surrounded by those he loved.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton.

Darrell was head mechanic at B&D Trucking in Peru for 24 years. He retired Jan. 1, 2016. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force in the civil engineers, spending time in the Aleutian Islands at Shemya Station and in California at March Air Base in Riverside.

He then returned home to attend Sauk Valley College in Dixon where he received his associate degree in applied science of automotive technology. Darrell was a kind gentle soul, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

His favorite things to do always included spending time with his family whether it was cruising, traveling to Disney World, Jekyll Island or any other beach location or just hanging out around the table telling stories and enjoying life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Alora (Jean) Zigler; his son, Jason Shipp (fiancé Krista Harlow) and his daughter Kathryn (Katie) Shipp. Also surviving are siblings Dave Zigler (Debbie), Donna Gray, Brian Zigler (Tanya), all of Morrison, and Steve Zigler (Brenda) of Tampico and Dwayne Zigler (Tammy) of Sterling.

Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Jeane Zigler (Brants), his father James Robert (Bob) Zigler, a brother-in-law Don Gray and his mother-in-law, Kathryn Louise Tomes.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations which will be directed to Family House in Peoria which provided a place of refuge for them during Darrell’s last two weeks of life.
