STERLING – Vernon L. “Sonny” Rosenow, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. 

Vernon was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Manlius, the son of Henry and Clara (Thompson) Rosenow. He married Dorothy Rayborn on June 26, 1948, in Rock Falls. She died Dec. 12, 2003.

Vernon was employed as a truck driver with National Cylinder Gas and General Cartage, later driving for Foster Coach in Sterling. He was an avid golfer, a member of Ham Radio Club, and a volunteer fireman with Tampico Fire Department.  

Survivors include, one daughter, Peggy (Michael Grebinski) Rosenow of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one brother, Ron (Judy) Rosenow of Edwards; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Rosenow of Sterling; and one grandson, Brett Rosenow of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Alan Rosenow, three brothers, and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, and the funeral at 3 p.m. Sunday, at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
