Arlyn G. Lawrence, 88, entered into the arms of Jesus on August 26, 2019. Born on November 21, 1930, he was a loyal and devoted son of Vernon and Hilda Lawrence. He was born in Tampico, Illinois and shared his birthplace with that of former President Ronald Reagan. This fun fact was a source of great pride for Arlyn, and presumingly President Reagan as well <smile>
Arlyn, with his father and mentor by his side, developed an incredibly strong work ethic as a child. He grew up to become a highly innovative and successful business owner. His family business, Lawrence and Sons Contracting, was a well-regarded earth moving company in Northern Illinois. He generously employed several family members and lifelong friends who became like family. He was a prominent leader in the communities of Dixon, Sterling and Rock Falls and involved in many civic organizations. Arlyn married his high school sweetheart and had three children, John, Janet and Scott. He then met and married his soul mate, Rita. At the time of his passing, they shared 45 tender and fun years together.
His love of the sunshine, warm temperatures, and golf brought he and Rita out to the Phoenix area in 1995. He had the opportunity to serve as Rita's mentor and partner in crime <smile> in 2001 when they decided retirement was for the birds and started L & L Asphalt, a successful asphalt paving company. Arlyn had the gift of believing in people before they were ready to believe in themselves. He was humble and kind beyond measure, left a lasting impression on many, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Arlyn is survived by numerous family members both near and far.
