WENDELL S. JOHNSON

Wendell S. Johnson, 70, of Prophetstown, IL, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at his home. Services were held Tuesday at the First   Lutheran Church, Prophetstown with  the Rev. Greg Olson officiating and interpreter Ann Gronlund, signing for the deaf. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Rock River Valley or the Diabetes Association. 

Wendell was born June 20, 1935 in Yorktown, IL, the son of Fred and Mildred (Crosell) Johnson. He graduated from Tampico High School and enlisted in the Army. While stationed in Germany, he married Sabine Kaeppler in 1959. He later married Elaine Neustrom in Davenport, IA on December 23, 1995.

Wendell was a city mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Prophetstown for 23 years, retiring June 6, 1997.

He was a 32 degree mason with membership in Masonic Lodge #293 A.F. & A.M., Prophetwon, the Moline Consistory, Rocflrd Tebala Shrine, and Prophet HIlls Country Club.

He loved playing golf with his friends and was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

He is survived by his wife, daughters and son-in-law, Jenniffer and David Nesmith, Springfield, IL, Stephanie Johnson, Burbank, CA, Annette Johson, Prophetstown, IL, 3 grandchildren, Michael, Jason and Camille Nesmith, and brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Mary Jo, Lombard, and Melvin and Kathy, Yorktown, IL.
