ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE

John COONEY of Hahnaman Township Passed Away Last Monday Morning.

John COONEY, one of the old settlers and a prominent farmer of Hahnaman township died at his home aobut 5:00 o'clock Monday morning.

Mr. COONEY had been ill for about twelve weeks and the cause of his death was heart failure.

Mr. COONEY was born in Taughconnell, Roscommon county, Ireland on October 21st, 1848 and came to America in 1860, stopping at Fallriver, Massachusetts, where he worked on a boat for about ten years. Leaving there he came to Illinois where he married Mary McDONALD in 1870, to which union was born five children, three boys, Walter, John and Thomas; and two girls, Bessie and Rose, all of which with their mother survive him. He also leaves three brothers, Thomas of Tampico, Luke of Pullman and Michael of Massachusetts.

The funeral of John COONEY who died Monday morning at his home near Deer Grove hwas held in St. Mary's church here at 10:30 Wednesday morning. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery here. Mr. COONEY was a native of Ireland and came to this country nearl fifty years ago. He was a prominent farmer of Hahnaman township. He leaves a wife and five children, and three brotehrs. The funeral was a very large one as he had many firens and acquaintances in the community in which he lived.

The pall bearers were: John COONEY of Chicago, Michael NORTON of Belmont, Iowa, William LEARY of Rock Falls, Thomas DOWNEY of Joliet, Walter and William COONEY of Tampico.
