Mary Frances STEWART was born in Pultney, Steuben County, New York, September 1, 1847. At the age of five years she came to Como, Illinoi, with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. STEWART. Later they settled at Hume.

On September 20m 1865, she was united in marriage to Thomas POPE at Sterling, Illinois. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy, and Frank R., who died July 12, 1913, at the age of thirty.

They made their home on a farm in Tampico Township until 1869, when they moved to Prairie Township near Manchester, IA. Later they sold their farm and returned to Illinois. In 1900 they went to Iowa to care for her father and mother until their deaths in 1902 and 1905 respectively.

On returning to Illinois they made their home in Tampico until Mr. POPE's deathin 1915. Since that time she has made her home withher daughter Mrs. Nellie WHEELOCK, near Tampico.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Tampico and she was a faithful attendant until  poor health preveneted her from going out.

She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister, Mrs. W. A. DUREY of Manchester, Ia.; four children, Fred of Manchester, Ia.; Cora WHITE of Sauk Center, Minn.; Nellie WHEELOCK of Tampico, Ill.; Grover C. of New Bedfore, Ill.; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She had been confined to her bed with a lingering illness since August, 1920, and died on February 5, 1930 at the age of 82yrs, 5months, and 5 days.
