Leonard Held

 

            Leonard Held, 93,of Milan, formerly of Prophetstown, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.  Services were held June 12 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown.  Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation was held before the services.

            Len was born Jan. 20, 1912 in Detroit, MI the son of Leonard and Ellen (Flugge) Held.  He attended Detroit Schools and graduated from Culver Military Academy in Indiana.  He married Fern Blankenfield in Detroit on Oct. 25, 1941.  She preceded him on Dec. 26, 1995.

            He was an Army veteran of WWII having served 42 months with the 30th Division in the European Theater.

            Len retired in 1977 after 22 years with Eagle Food Centers, Milan where he was the Printing Dept. Manager.

            He was a Charter member of the Milan Optimist Club and former member of Oakwood Country Club.  Len also enjoyed golfing, dancing and fishing.

            He is survived by a stepson, Wes McMilllan, Princeton, MO, six grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 14 great-great- grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Williams. Warkins Lake, MI.
