Frank C. Elmendorf, 96, Dies Wednesday
 
One of Sterling's oldest residents, Frank C. Elmendorf Sr., 96, passed away in his home, 1306 2nd Ave., at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, following an illness of more than a year.
 
The body rests at the Woods Funeral Home where friends may call after seven o'clock this Thursday evening.  Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday by Elder L. J. Marsa of Rockford, pastor of the Rock Falls Seventh Day Adventist Church.  The burial will take place in Riveside Cemetery.
 
Mr. Elmendorf was born Jan. 26, 1862, in Ulster County, New York, son of Hezekiah and Hannah Winn Elmendorf.  He came to Illinois with his parents when a child.  Mr. Elmendorf and Ada Price were united in marriage, Feb. 5, 1893, in Cosmopalis, Wash.  They came to Hume Township in 1905 where they farmed for many years.
 
Surviving with the wife are five sons and five daughters, Frank and Lowell of Sterling, Kenneth of Como, Isaac of Long Beach, Calif., Lawrence of Downey, Calif., Mrs. Charles (Grace) Reichard and Mrs. George (Ada) Gaumer of Sterling, Mrs. Lawrence (Fay) Kauffman of Dixon, Mrs. Oral (Fern) Dowdy of St. Elmo, Ill., and Mrs. Glen (Rene) Peek of Long Beach, Calif.
 
Mr. Elemendorf also leaves two sisters, Mrs. C. B. Angell of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. Joe Jackman of San Mateo, Calif., 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several neices and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
 
The children residing out of town have all arrived to  attend the funeral, including Isaac who flew from Long Beach, Calif.

Frank C. Elmendorf Rites Held Friday
 
Funeral rites for Frank C. Elmendorf, 96, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Woods Funeral Home.  Officiating was Elder L. J. Marsa of Rockford, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Rock Falls.
 
The burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.  Casket bearers were M. C. Kidd, Howard Rowbottom, Vernon V. Kindle, Hobert Wilson, Clarence Allen and Allen Puels.
 
Those in charge of the flora tributes were Miss Leora Black, Mrs. Wilbur Decker, Mrs. Kyle Tetidrick, Mrs. Elmer C. Jellerichs and Swartleys.
 
Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Elmendorf and family who were en route from Downey, Calif., to their new home in Detroit, Mich.;  Isaac Elmendorf and Mrs. Rene Peek of Long Beach, Calif;  Mr. and Mrs. Oral Dowdy of St. Elmo, Ill.;  Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Kauffman of Dixon, Mrs. C. B. Angell, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Angell, and Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Angell of Austin, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Pearson and Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Keefer of Tampico.
 
Other relatives and many friends also came from Dixon, Tampico, New Bedford and Rochelle.
