Obits > 1927 - Clinton Forrest Greenwood

TAMPICO TORNADO, Thurs., Feb. 24, 1927 1;2

Clinton Forrest GREENWOOD son of Joseph and Anna GREENWOOD was born March 14, 1885 at Hooppole in Henry county.  He lived at home until 18 years of age and then went to work with a crew that were operating a dredge boat. This work carried him into several states and in 10 years  he ahd worked his way to the highest position, that of Chief Engineer.

He was married Sept. 24, 1913 to Miss Matie BUNKER of Yorktown. They engaged in farming, settling on a farm south of Yorktown where he lived  until the 15th of February, 1927, when after several weeks suffering , he clossed his earthly life about 5 o'clock p.m.

Two boys came to gladden the lives of these parents and the home was bright and buoyant, with hope and the sunshine of good cheer. As a husband, Forrest proved himself ideal. He was always kind, thoughtful, a selded provider, always striving to make his wife, the jewel of his heart and life happy and comfortable. It was his greatest joy to doing good. He has been an ideal father to his two boys, whom he has been called to leave at such an early age, the eldest, Leo Forrest, 12 years and Dale Bunker, age 6 years. He was a kind neighbor, always ready to assist in any way that called for true neighborliness.

He was converted  in a meeting held at Yorktown in March 1914 and united with the Church of Christ at Yorktown. He has been a faithful member and was serving as deacon of the church at the time of his death. A more beautiful sight I have never seen than that of Forrest and his wife serving side by side in God's house as Deacon and Deaconess.

Those who mourn their loss today are the wife and two sons and mother, six brothers and two sisters, and many other relatives and friends.

In his death, the community has lost a splendid citizen and neighbor. And the church militant one of its loyal members.

Our loss is heaven's gain. He is not dead, but has moved out of the earthly tabernacle into that house not made with hands.

Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ in Yorktown. Interment in Yorktown cemetery. The brothers of the deceased acted as pallbearers.

Mrs. Homer STEERS and Mrs. Frank THACKABERRY sang three comforting songs. Mrs. Clare STEERS playing the piano.

F. V. KEARNS, minister of the Church of Christ in Tampico, under whose ministry Forrest was converted, preached the funeral sermon.

There were many beautiful flowers and  the beautiful floral tributes spoke  to the hearts of the place Forrest held in the lives of others.

One of the largest, if not the largest number of people, gathered at the church in spite of bad roads and bleak wind to pay their tribute of respect and show their appreciation of the true man of God that had been called from time into eternity

F. V. KEARNS
