OLIVER BATTEN

Grant Park - Oliver James BATTEN, 79, formerly of Tampico, now of rural Grant Park died Tuesday night in St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee after a long illness.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m until the time of services at 8 p.m. in the Sexton Funeral Home, 291 North Main Street, Manteno. Rev. Lance Hurley, pastor of the Christian Church of Manteno will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery in Tampico.

Mr. BATTEN was born Jan. 22, 1906, in Tampico, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard BATTEN. He married Esther E. EADS, who survives him. The deceased was a retired Tampico Police Chief and a farmer in the Grant Park area.

Surviving are three sons, Lowell, Howard and Lawrence all of Tampico; four daughters, Mrs. Mary KUEPKER of Str****,  Mrs. Rosalie MILLER of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Joyce SANDROCK of Fulton and Mrs. Rita WETZELL of Tampico; three step-sons, Charles McKENNA of Sterling, Leroy McKENNA of Sycamore, and Jerry McKENNA of Tampico; five step-daughters, Mrs. Dianne McKENNA of Tampico, Mrs. Joyce STEARN of Kankakee, Mrs. Marjorie BRYAN of Tampico, Mrs. Susan BUSHMAN of Rock Falls, and Barbara McKENNA of Woodstock; 35 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. July PORTER, of Davenport, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandson and one step-son.
