Clemma June Yarde, age 77, of 305 East Market Street, Tampico, Illinois, died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, surrounded by her family, ending her courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Yarde was born June 8, 1925 in Dixon, Illinois, the daughter of Gordon and Connie (Norman) Buchanan. She was a 1943 graduate of Tampico Hight School and received her R. N. from Moline Public Hospital School of  Nursing in 1946. She was united in marriage to Archie Yarde on October 26, 1946 in Tampico, Illinois. She began her professional career with the Home Hospital in Sterling, Illinois, and in 1948 she became a school nurse for the Sterling Public School District. Her career would span a 34 year period as she touched many lives. Clemma loved the students and helped start a breakfast program for needy children. She was a member of Tampico United Methodist Church and active in the Martha Circle. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, cooking and most of all her three grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed and be lovingly remembered by her husband, Archie Yarde of Tampico, Illinois; her twin daughters, Barbara (Ben) Pennington of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Bette (Don) Bechtold of Geneva, Illinois; her three grandchildren, Jeff Pennington, Brenn and Kelly Bechtold; three sisters, Mary Campbell of Jacksonville, Alabama, Jean Pfundstein of New Haven, Indiana and Joanne Lowe of Sun City, Arizona; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at the Tampico First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph I. Carr, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. A memorial has been established in her memory to th Special Olympics, American Cancer Society or the Tampico United Methodist Church.
