OBITUARY

Mr. Harry "Bud' Hurd, age 81, of 109 S. Benton Street, Tampico, Illinois died Wednesday evening, April 14, 1993 in his home in Tampico.

Funeral prayer services will be conducted on Saturday, April 17, at 10:30 A.M. in the Garland Funeral Home anatomic, followed by mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tampico with Rev. Vincent J. Shindlelar, pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tampico. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4  and 6-8 P.M. A memorial has been established i his memory to the Whiteside County Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison and St. Mary's Church in Tampico.

Mr. Hurd was born on August 8, 1911 in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Harry M. and Anna Rhode Hurde. He was united in marriage to Cecelia Daley on May 6, 1938 in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

He was educated in Sterling grade and high schools and was a graduate of Scovill Business College in Sterling. He owned and operated a tavern and restaurant in Tampico for a number of years and was employed by the state of Illinois for 18 years. He retired as manager of the Secretary of State Drivers' License Station in Sterling on June 30, 1977. He was active in civic affairs serving as secretary of Tampico Grade School, 8 years as secretary of Tampico Business Men's Association. He was elected supervisor of Tampico Twp. seven terms, served on the Whiteside County Board from 1949 through 1992 with the exception of three years. He was Tampico Twp. Democratic Precinct Committeeman for 39 years and was secretary of the Whiteside County Democratic Central Committee for 10 years. He was a member of the Tampico Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years serving 3 years as chief of the department.

He is survived by his wife Cecelia of Tampico, four daughters, Mrs. Linda Cole of Aurora, Illinois, Mrs. E. Phillip (Sally) Hurde of Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Gary (Harriette) Woitte of Littleton, Colorado, and Mary Ellen Hurd of Tampico, Illinois; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Girton of Peoria, Illinois and Kenneth Hurd of Sterlng, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandchild.
