Prophetstown: - Mrs. Meta Ella Mathis, 85, of Prophetstown, died Monday morning in Community General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Gardner Chapel with the Rev. Robert LeMont, officiating.  Burial will be in Yorktown Cemetery.  Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
A memorial has been established to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Yorktown.
Mrs. Mathis was born Dec. 21, 1896 in Trenton, Nebraska, the daughter of Emil and Amelia (Lange) Matthes. She was united in marriage to Marius Mathis on Nov. 18, 1926 in Sterling. She lived in the rural Yorktown area since her marriage. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Yorktown.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Dorothy) Schneider of Freeport; one son, Robert of Prophetstown; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Yeager of Youngstown, Ohio and one brother, Fred Matthes of Findley, Ohio
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1969, four sisters, three brothers and one granddaughter.
