GORDON C. GARLAND


Rock Falls: - Gordon C. Garland, 73, of 1413 Shore Acres Road, died Monday at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.

Private graveside services were 5 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampico with Rev. Thomas Risley, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Rock Falls, officiating. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rock Falls.

A memorial has been established.

Mr. Garland was born Sept. 13, 1915 in Fulton, the son of John and Agnes Leahy Garland. He married Harriette Glassburn on Sept. 23, 1940 and she died on Sept. 1, 1968. Mr. Garland had operated Garland Oil in Tampico and was an owner/operator of a tavern in Tampico for several years. He had been a car salesman for Guthrie Ford and Myers Ford in Sterling, and prior to his retirement in 1981, he had worked for Northwestern Steel and Wire.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Georgianne) Yost of Chicago, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Murnick of Lamont, Rita Garland of Rock Falls; two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Hamblock of Tampico.

He was preceded in death by one brother.
