Prophetstown: - C. Deane Frary, 74, of 204 E. 2nd St., died Wednesday at the Illini Hospital in Silvis. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Janes, officiating.


Mr. Frary was born Sep. 7, 1916 in Prophetstown, the son of Bruce and Mary Esta Gate Frary. He married Frances Doutnit, Nov. 25, 1939 in Evanston. Mr. Frary was a 1934 Prophetstown High School graduate and attended the University of Illinois until 1938. He was a partner in Frary & Sons from 1947-1968 when he established Soy Proteins in Annawan and Mineral, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1989.


He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and was an Eagle Scout, the youngest ever in Whiteside County at the time attained the rank. Mr. Frary was cubmaster for many years, was formerly on the Prophetstown Elementary School Board, former Prophetstown Township Supervisor and member of the Whiteside County Board. He was a member of the America Legion Post 522, charter member of Prophetstown Lions, Prophetstown Hills Country Club, Masonic Lodge, Tebala Shrine (Rockford), Sigma Alpha Epsilon, life member of University of Illinois Alumni, University of Illinois Varsity “I” Association, and member of the United Methodist Church.


He is survived by his wife, two sons, David, Ft. Smith, Akansas ., Dennie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa., two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lee (Joyce) Hardgrave of Austin, Texas, Mabel (Tooty) Mitchell of Mesa, Arizona, Mary Brown of Prophetstown; and one brother Donald E. of Prophetstown.
