TAMPICO MAN TOPS LIST OF ILLINOIS OFFICERS IN NAVY

Washington, Oct. 24 -(AP)- When the nation and its far-flung battle fleet observe Navy Day October 27, Illinois can point with pride to its contribution of 13 high-ranking officers to our present forces.

 Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves, 72, of Tampico, who in 1933 was commander-in-chief of the Fleet, tops the list. Recalled from retirement, he serves as Navy representative on the munitions assignment board. Now in his third war, Reeves was on the battleship "Oregon" in 1898 when it fough successfully against Admiral Cervera's Fleet in Santiago harbor. In World War I he won the navy cross as commandering officer of the battleship "Maine." (article continues with list of others.....)
