Yorktown Citizens Want Post Office Re-Established

A petition has been circulated by Chas. H. Cooley asking Uncle Sam to re-establish the postoffice at Yorktown. Several years ago it was closed after the rural routes out of Tampico were established through the village and people have been receiving their mail from the rural carrier, this they claim is an inconvenience in the purchase of money orders and stamps and the mailing of letters, being compelled to stand and wait for the carrier in all kinds of weather. The Yorktown post office before the advent of phones, rural delivery and autos was one of the familiar and well known offices of this section doing a large business and the meeting place of many of the old timers and early settlers. With the advent of the railroad in Yorktown and the building of elevator and stores the people say that Yorktown has come back and needs a post office. If the office is established the mail would probably be carried from Tampico by carrier Geo. Lutyens whose route lays through the village.
