AGED RESIDENT OBSERED BIRTHDAY

Patrick Kelly was 102 Years of Age Last Saturday – Born In Ireland

Patrick KELLY, Tampico’s oldest citizen, observed his 102nd birthday Saturday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Erickson, with whom he makes his home. Although his health is exceptionally good considering his age, the day was spent quietly.

Mr. KELLY was born in Ireland April 4, 1840. When three years old he came to Canada with his parents where his mother passed away. His father, John KELLY, later settled in Whiteside county which later became a part of Tampico. He farmed land which he still owns and which his father purchased from the government, until 1911 which he retired to make his home in Tampico. He has many interesting memories of the early days when this part of the country was first settled. He became a citizen of the United States when a young man.

He has six living children: Thomas KELLY of Tampico, John KELLY of Chicago, Mrs. Maurine O’BRIEN of Tampico, Mrs. Katherine RASMUSSEN of Sterling, Mrs. Herman LINDEN of Deer Grove, and Mrs. James ERICKSON of Tampico. He has three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
