Royal Neighbors of America (RNA) National Headquarters honored Shirley Lester of RNA Chapter 1570 at the Chapters meeting on August 22nd, 2007 at the Tampico Community Building in Tampico, IL.

Shirley was 1st runner up in the nation for Fraternalist of the Year for 2007 Royal Neighbors of America and was chosen out of over 300,000 RNA Members and was honored by Darcy Smith, RNA Fraternal Coordinator from National Headquarters located in Rock Island, IL. Darcy presented Shirely with a plaque for her outstanding service not only to Royal Neighbors of America but also community and church work she does for everyone with her many volunteer hours of service. Shirley always goes the extra mile in all she does and is a excellent person to help others in need. Darcy said you can feel proud to receive this honor from RNA.

RNA Thomas Chapter 1570 voted at the August 22nd meeting to donate towards the Red Oak/Ohio United Methodist Church Christmas care packages and helping pay for the postage to send packages over to our troops in Iraq and also voted to give a monetary donation to the Tampico Historical Society Roof Fund. Jerry Schindle was guest speaker at the meeting and talked about the services the Tampico Food Pantry provides for the area. Schindle reported Tampico Food Pantry serves over 20 families in the area with monthly food donations. Schindle volunteer to be site coordinator for the Tampico area that made over 1,000 noon lunches for the area children this summer for the annual "Feed the Children" sponsored by United Way of Sterling/Rock Falls area. Schindle thanked RNA Chapter 1570 for helping with this event and plans on doing this again next year since there was such a good response to this summer program.

Next RNA Thomas Chapter 1570 activity/meeting will be October17th with their annual Halloween party and location will be announced at a later date.
