Does anyone know if Jacob Mingle was in the civil war? I have been unable to find any records.

I'm curious because his obit says nothing about him being a veteran. However, a notation in the Sterling Evening Gazette December 12, 1896 reads 'Col. J.B. Mingles wife....'

Thanks,
Barb Chandler

Hi Barb, He's not on the National Parks Service site: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ & he's not on the Whiteside Co. list of Veterans buried in Whiteside County (found in our Military section of this site).

There is a Jacob Mingle, b. OH, age 39 in 1863 registered in Indiana:
From MILITARY
U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865 about Jacob Mingle
Name: Jacob Mingle
Residence: Green, Hancock, Indiana
Class: 2
Congressional District: 6th
Age on 1 July 1863: 39
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824
Race: White
Place of Birth: Ohio

Hope this helps!

Col. must have been an honorary title because he was born in PA and never lived in IN.

Thanks for looking.

Barb
