I am not sure I have the spelling right. Hope someone knows where Docie Bottoms was located. I believe it was south of Tampico or could have been near Yorktown or New Bedford.

Thank you,
Patty

I am familiar with what is called the "Docia" bottoms. The low farm ground starts about three miles out of Erie on Cordova road, and goes all the way to the Mississippi River.
The real name for is the Meredosia Bottoms, and if you do a Google search, you will see several references to it.
I'm guessing they are what you are looking for.

We used to live a couple miles east of Hillsdale. They called the low land that lay along the Rock River the Docie.

Isn't it something that towns so close together have such similar names for things? I have heard the terms "Docia Road and Docia bottoms all my life, and Hillsdale has the Docie.
No wonder people get confused!

Dear Taylor, etal.

If anyone is interested and they have access to HISTORY of WHITESIDE (Bent/Wilson), check pages 21 and 109 for tid-bits on the Meredocia. aka "MARAIS de OGEE".

I believe the northern (western) end is on Route 84 south of Albany. I don't know if the old pumping station is there or not, but the highway has been sandbagged several times when the Mississippi flooded. You will see in the history that the ice jamed one year and the Rock River flowed north and into the Mississippi.

Jack
