Dear Ms. McLoughlin,

First let me thank you and your workers for the wonderful job you've done on your cemetery projects. I have been able to locate over twenty of my relative's grave sites in St. Mary's Cemetery as a result! They include
two of my great aunts, twins, who settled there in the early 1870s, and many of their descendants. I am extremely grateful.
I am still trying to locate a grave site for my great-grand uncle who also, I am pretty sure, settled there at the same time. He would then have been in his late 60s. His name does not appear in the files of either St. Mary's or Tampico Memorial Cemeteries, so I assume he must have died between 1872 and 1881, and would probably have been buried in the Old Tampico Cemetery. Are there any records available of that cemetery, or are there
> any records, like a local census, of people living in Tampico then?

Joseph J. Mullen

I am responding on our message board because I keep getting my emails returned:

Hello Mr. Mullen,
Thank you for the kind words regarding our cemetery projects. As for your g-grand uncle. The only records for the "Old Tampico Cemetery" are listed on our website:
http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/OldTampicoCemetery.html
I am hoping someday, somewhere, we will find a complete list of who was buried in that cemetery. Legend has it that the last burial in that cemetery was in 1876. I find that difficult to believe, since the Tampico Memorial Cemetery (TMC) wasn't organized until 1882. We know folks passed in that interim! Keep in mind, these lists were compiled mostly by "walk-throughs" by the sexton. There may be missing names. The secretaries of both the TMC and St. Mary's are working on revising the lists. I think both were compiled in mid- 90's.

It would be helpful to know the name of your gg uncle. I can check with St. Mary's secretary. I can also check with the secretary of the TMC.
I can also check some directories we have, if I know the name.

Denise
