Is there anyone that might have some information on the Elgin family from the Tampico area or anyone that might be able to help with the Elgin family.

We have Elgin families living here now. I will check our family files at the museum as well as post the names/addresses/phone #s of local Elgins. Give me a day or two, though.

Dear Anonymous,
If you watched your local news - You may have seen two of your relatives being interviewed (re: Reagan's passiing). They do not "do" email, so you will need to give me a method of communication for me to pass on to them. ~

Erik, I have emailed "erinshank4" and asked if she can offer more help for you. You need to give more information, such as the names, birth/death dates, etc. of your gr-grandparents, as you did in your personal email to me. Here are the names of the Elgin's buried in the YT cemetery:
YORKTOWN CEMETERY
ELGIN
Bertha G. - 1884-1943
Child of Henry E. - d. 1917
Floyd, d. 1930
Henry J., b. May 9, 1889, d. 1937
Lloyd (of B.) no dates, buried in section 36
Mary, d. 1924
Richard, b. 1928-1937

I did not have a lot of luck finding obits for them in the Sterling Gazette newspaper index. I will see if I can find something in our Tornado newspaper, but it will take a while since there are not complete dates. I' get back to you if I find anything. Below are SOME of the listings in the Sterling Gazette

STERLING GAZETTE

Elgin, Bertha Wetzell (John Henry) obituary 27 Apr 1943;5;3

All of this is great. Here is some information that may help. My Grandpa's name was Lloyd and my Grandma's name was Margaret (she was a Sibley). My Great Grandparent's names were John Henry Elgin and Bertha. There are a few articles from the Sterling Gazette that would be great to read. Are all of these articles saved somewhere?

Hi Erick,
The STERLING GAZETTE INDEX is available online. Just click on the link I provided. The Sterling Gazette Newspapers are archived on microfilm at the Sterling Library. The index is very helpful because it gives you the issue date, page # and column #. You can then read it on the microfilm reader and transcribe it by hand or make a copy. You can also call or email the library and request they make you copies and mail them to you. They charge a small fee for the service. You can find contact information for Sterling Library on our TABLE OF CONTENTS page > scroll down to Libraries and Historical Societies and click on link for Sterling Library. There were more listiings for the ELGIN surname in the Gazette Index, so you may want to do your own search.

Let me know if you need some help.

i am also an Elgin looking for the history of the Elgin family. My family has many old photographs of the Elgins and also the Sibleys. My Grandfather (Elgin) married a Sibley. I will take some time and look through all the photographs as some have names of the people written on them and i will post their names on this message board if it will help anyone out. I would also like to add Erick on this message board is my brother. seeing as he lives in Indiana and I live in Minnesota I would post on this message board to share information with not only him, but also with anyone else wanting information.

I briefly looked through a bunch of old newspaper clippings and a journal my Grandmother kept and came up with a few names and dates. I'm listing what I have found so far.

John Henry Elgin B: 1889 D: Aug.30, 1937
Bertha Gertrude (Wetzell) Elgin B: March 7, 1884 D: April 26, 1943
-John and Bertha married these are the children I could find:
Mildred (Elgin) Whittington
Violet (Elgin) Riley - this one I am not sure of, only saw this name come up once from a newspaper clipping from 1943
Evelyn (Elgin) Thompson B: Feb. 26,1914 D: April 20,1982 Married: June 7,1941
Hilda (Elgin) Clayton or Hill (found different last names from two different newspaper clippings) B: May 23, 1921 D: Dec. 6, 1974
Llyod Elgin (my grandfather) B: Aug. 8, 1904 D: 2000.
I also found another name of Bernice (Elgin) Miller from yet another newspaper clipping.
One newspaper clipping also stated Bertha had a step daughter by the name of Mamie Galt or Gaulrapp
If I read one clipping correctly John and Bertha had a child that died in infancy.

Heres another name:
Edward William Elgin B: Nov. 30, 1898 D: April 18, 1974. Had two children: Vernan F. Elgin and Kenneth M. Elgin. Edward's parents names are William and Elizabeth Fritz Elgin

Yet another name:
Vernon Elgin married to Bernadine Anderson Dec. 18, 1951 They had five children: Janice, Ronald, Darryl, Marvin, Lauren.
I believe that Vernon is the son of Edward

This is what i have so far from the Illinois region. I also have Llyod (son of John and Bertha) and Margaret Elgin (my Grandparents) childrens names and dates of birth if anyone is interested in that. I am going to continue looking through all the old photographs and journal entries. if anyone has any more information on any of the people i mentioned that would be very helpful. I am also trying to find John and Bertha's parents names as well. I kind of hit a dead end with them.

Hi Craig,
How wonderful of you to share the info. Very helpful to anyone interested in the Elgin family lines. If you are willing, you can scan an of the information you have and I can either transcribe it to the site or file it at the Historical Society. It would be nice to start an Elgin Family album on the site, so if you want to send any photos, I will post them.

Ron & Laren and Vernon still live in Tampico. I think one of the posts on this thread is from that family line.

Thanks again!
