Hi Keri,

I think the Eliza DOW listed (photograph) here may in fact be Eliza Jane nee DOW MEYERS who was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret nee WILLETT DOW. She married Stephen A.D. MEYERS in 1897.

Perhaps Linda KOLB can clarify more regarding Eliza DOW.

Thanks Les! It is soooooooooooo good to see your name on the site again. Here is a link to the photo I think you are referencing. Eliza Dow

Do a site-search for other links.

I'll email Lynn and see if she can add something.

Hi again Keri,
I was perusing through Ancestry.com, and the IL state archives to see if I could find a link. Have you checked these sources yet? If not, I can do it for you. I'm wondering if you could give me any sort of time frame for your grandparents - birth date/death date, place of birth or death or anything that would help me identify YOUR Harry Longman or Eliza Dow? Thanks. I contacted Lynn Kolb, so hopefully she will post soon.

Hi all, Happy New Year. Unfortunately, we don't know anything about Eliza except what we've learned from Les. Her photo was in an old album that belonged to "Mrs. Leslie Denison" aka Maud Dow who married Leslie Denison. There is one source listed for Dow's in our materials - "History of Dows" by R. P. Dow, but we haven't tried to find it yet.

I don't know if this is relevent, but this is some information on Thomas C. Dow & Margaret Willet from correspondence between John L. (Jack) Kolb and Keith Dow, in August 1993:
In 1854, T. C. Dow was elected Supervisor of Concord in Bureau Co., IL. In this correspondence was information on a Temple family that was written above Margaret Willet's information - "Margaret Temple's grandparents were born in Annawan." Below Thomas C. Dow's information was written:
Lydia Ellen Dow, b. in Fairfiled Twp. 3-31-1869; attended Tampico school; m. Fred France 10-20-1890 at Indianola, Neb. Lived in Hume, moved to Tampico in 1897. Fred died in 1937. Lydia died in 1951. Lydia & Fred had three children:
Margaret Lucille (Temple) 8-17-1891, died 1-12-1969
Kathleen Belle (Dotts ?) born 1896, died 1945
Joseph Leroy born 1905
Not sure if this is from the correspondence:
Thomas C. Dow was born on the Dow homestead south of Yorktown and his daughters Lucy & Eunice are buried in Yorktown.

Hope this helps,
Lynn

Frustration had set in on my own project, so I set it aside and read the Tampico posts. In reading this Eliza Dow post, I did a google search on Harry Longman and Eliza Dow. I believe I found them.

Harrison County Iowa, Harry W. Longman (1894 - 1948) and ELZINA E. Longman (1897 - 1946. Iowa Gravestone Photo Project. There was other information on the family also.

It happens that I had a ancestor settle in Harrison County as one of their first. He then to Morgan County, Iowa. David Work, father of three daughters that created a lot of Whiteside history.

Do a google search, and if you don't find it, let me know.

Jack

Thanks Lynn and Jack. Here is a link to the site that I think Jack was referencing:

Harry - son of Charles A. & Jennie Elizabeth (Tupper) Longman

Elzina - d/o Frank Wells Dow, Jr. & Florence Elmyra (Servis) Dow

Parents of Willis Bourdon, Beulah Virgene, Edyth Arlene, Wanita May, unnamed baby daughter, and Charles Franklin. After Elzina's death, Harry second married Thalia M. Coulthard Nov. 13, 1946, no children.

IowaGravestones.org is a special project of IAGenWeb -- a prime source for Iowa genealogy records, family history, ancestor obituaries, other Iowa historical records.
