I am trying to learn about the person I believe to be my great great grandfather, Augustus H. Potter / A.H. Potter. I believe that he was from West Bend, WI ( where I am currently from) originally born in NY, but I have documentation showing that he moved to Illinois after marrying a Mary M Bullock. Further research through ancestry.com led me to Tampico. I found a 1870 census that shows a 22 year old A.H Potter farmed in the area with his wife Mary. I also know that in Wisconsin he had a sister Esther. I also found the following on your site:

Where this get complicated is that I believe that Augustus ended up divorcing Mary and moving back to West Bend, Wi. By 1900 I believe he had moved back and was already re-married with a child (which my family line comes from). I found his grave in West Bend, Wi with his second wife Mary Ann Clapham who traces back to West Bend. The only evidence that I have of the divorce is a 1900 census where Mary lists herself as divorced. But there are no records of the divorce and that has be doubting myself. My connections through the family line make sense and all the time frames match up.

Any information that you could provide on the Augustus Potter, his farm or a possible divorce would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Zpotter, Have you contacted the Whiteside Co. circuit court's clerk regarding a divorce record?

Or, checked the Gazette Online INDEX?
