Hello, I am trying to find out more about my Grandfather, William Wesley Terry, Whom was born in Fenton Il, I believe 1880. I have both of his marriage records printed out. What I would like to know is more info. on his parents-John Terry & Sarah Shepherd. What brought them to the US? Was my G Grandfather (John Terry) born here? I believe Sarah was from England? I printed out a marriage license that states John Terry/Sarah Shepherd. 09/04/1879/, 00005079 Whiteside, IL. but I couldn't open it. But most importantly info. on my Grandfather(William Wesley Terry)when he moved/immigrated from Fenton Il. to Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. where he died, July 12/1950. He married Mary Potter 11/16/1907, age, 29, in Durham Ontario. He was a widower, then married Amanda Branch 2/5/1927, in Durham, Ontario, Canada. Any info on my Grandfather/G Grandfather would be greatly appreciated. Also, on the marriage record for my Grandfathers 2nd marriage, his Father's name is written as John Wilber Terry, and Mother Sarah Ann Shepherd.

Hello Sarah,
Welcome to our boards. Let me check to see if there is a connection to our Dr. Harry Terry, the doctor that delivered Ronald Reagan. Give me a couple of days. You can also email me at the tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com. I'll get back with you shortly.

Hello Sarah,

There was 'a' John W Terry that was naturalized in Chicago, IL in 1894. I would highly recommend you send for his naturalization papers or at least order the LDS microfilm to read it. The letter of intent could offer a plethora of information you are seeking. It may not be your same John Terry, but it's worth checking into.

William is listed as being widowed in 1921 census with a one year old baby. I'm guessing that 1st wife & mother of his children died during childbirth with last child. He remarried to Irene Branch in 1927. That's a long time for him to not remarry when he had such young children.

Thank you So much for all the info, I have some info on William Wesley's 1st wife, get Mary Potter. I'm trying to find out the link in Fenton Il., who was there- Terry's or Shepherd's, for John & Sarah to go there from Canada, get married, give birth to William Wesley, then return to Canada a couple of years later. The only sense it makes to me, is there has to have been other relatives living there?

Most of the above links are from GENEALOGY TRAILS/WHITESIDE CO., IL
I recommend you go to their website and do a site search for the two surnames. There is a site search box about half-way down the home age. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to continue searching for you.
