TAHS Website Updates for July, 2008
TAHS Website Updates for July, 2008
Jul 31, 2008
A BIG "thank you" to Milo Smith for submitting the Burial Permits for burials in the mid 50's. I have started uploading them to a Picasa Web Album. This allows you view all of them at one time. I will also link to them individually from the cemetery Index list. The is especially exciting because I am finding documentation of burials that were not on our original index list. This is truly a treasure and I cannot thank Milo enough for this wonderful "gift." GO TO > "Table of Contents" http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Index.html Scroll down to "CEMETERIES" & find 'Burial Permits' - http://picasaweb.google.com/TampicoHistoricalSociety/BURIALPERMITS (you can just go directly to that last link, but I wanted you all to know how to access it in the future!)
Denise Mickelson has photographed the entire St. Mary's Cemetery! I have uploaded half of them to a Picasa Web Album. There are over 800 photos, so I have to make 2 albums. They should be all loaded this week, but it will take me a while to get them all "captioned." You can read most of the names just from the thumbnail right now. Here are direct links to albums 1 and 2: Album 1: St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico - http://picasaweb.google.com/TampicoHistoricalSociety/StMarySCemeteryTampicoIL Album 2: St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico - http://picasaweb.google.com/TampicoHistoricalSociety/StMarySCemeteryTampicoILPart2
(I encourage everyone to open a FREE Google account - aka: "gmail." If you have a Google account, you can post comments or corrections under the photos) This is very helpful to me.
Les Niemi has started a wonderful thread on our message board - "This week in Tampico History." He has transcribed tidbits from old Tampico Tornado Newspapers through the years. Everyone is getting a kick out of it. If you haven't already done so - take a peek. http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/board/board_topic/23882/366563.htm
Speaking of Tampico Tornado Newspapers - they are once again safe and DRY - we have our new roof!. Many, many thanks to all of those who donated towards this huge expense. I can't imagine what we would have done without your help. Duane Thompson was also very helpful in getting our leaky pipes taken care of before the roofing project started. He's even roughed in the plumbing for a bathroom upstairs in the Family History Library (Oh, you just don't know how much I want that puppy installed!)

Our annual Pot Luck "picnic" in the Community Building will be Aug. 26, with guest speaker, Harold Wright (Gene's bro)speaking on the Eclipse Lawnmower (guess where it started?). If you can attend, please bring a dish to pass and own table setting. Contact president Joan Johnson: 815-438-7581 or garyjoan@thewisp.net
