Our June & July programs were identifying the various businesses, their owners, types of business, length of business and special memories of the buildings along Main Street, particularly those on the National Registry of Historic Places. This is an on-going project that we will continue to address. Many of our members and even non-members have submitted their recollections of these historic buildings through the years. I encourage all of you to do the same. I have been going to Morrison court house, Recorder's Office to follow the owners of the buildings through the years. This will not necessarily tell me what the business was or who occupied the building. I also need to go to a different department - County Clerk's office, to track the businesses by name. There are only 13 buildings currently on Historic Main St. If I could get 3 or 4 volunteers to take 3 or 4 addresses, we could complete that portion of the research much more quickly. If you are interested in helping with this part of the project, please contact me - tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com or 815-590-2143. Here is a link to the buildings on Main St. as well as a layout of what is on the National Registry. You can post information under each photo if you would like to contribute to our project.
