TAHS Memorial Day Services

May 16, 2012

The Tampico American Legion Post #574 and Tampico Area Historical Society will be conducting the Annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28 at 10:00 AM in Reagan Park. The Legion will present the Colors, a brief prayer will be given, followed by the gun firing salute and Taps. In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, a Roll Call will be given of all the Civil War Veterans buried in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery and Tampico’s St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Historical Society will recite the significance of the Civil War Statue located in the Park, followed by a description of the battles listed at the base of the Statue (Pea Ridge, Gettysburg, Atlanta & Resaca). The life history of Henry Wetzell, veteran of the Civil War will be presented. We look forward to a large crowd coming for this presentation, since at the time of the dedication of the Statue in 1907, there were over 1,000 in attendance. In case of rain, the program will be presented in the Tampico Community Building.
