TAMPICO AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER

Sep 2, 2004

Hello All,

Here are the newest entries for August, 2004. The site is
gaining more and more popularity, which is so exciting to
me. Thanks to all who wrote in support of the Family
History Libray/Research Center. It will be voted on in
November.

If you are a local resident of Tampico, you may want to
review the post on the Village Forum. This is for local
town issues. Seems the village does not like the public
being informed of village meetings. What do YOU think???

We now have over 700 web pages of historical information on
the web site and much more to come. For those that
volunteered to help transcribe - a great big HUG and THANK
YOU.

I hope you enjoy the latest additions to the site.

Denise

8/01/04 - Added OBIT for Mrs. Charles Darby currently

8/10/04 - Added OBIT for J.H. Hamblock in OBITS CONT'D
8/10/04 - Added OBIT for Mrs. Martin Keupker in OBITS
CONT'D
8/10/04 - Added a page 2 for OBITS (Obits Cont'd) listed on
front page under "History & Biographies" catagory. There
are also obits listed in the "Articles/History/Obits"
section listed under "History & Biographies." My goal is to
eventually have one OBIT catagory, extracting from the ones
listed in Articles/History/Obits section. However, that
takes some time and getting the new obits posted is the
priority for now. For now you will need to check both pages
(i.e.: Articles/History/Obits and the Obits Cont'd) or use
the site search engine until I can consolidate on one page.
I would like to make an Obit Index as well, since the
templates used for these pages does not allow me to
alphabetize the listings. I'm still waiting for that
28-hour day!
I have itemized all of the listings in the "Misc.
Album"(front page, Photo Albums catagory). This photo album
is mostly various family albums. They are now itemized by
name on the front page/Photo Album catagory so you may go
directly to the family album of choice as opposed to first
going to Misc. Album and then going to family album. Both
avenues will work for you. The Misc. Album was originally
called "Photo Album 1" which you may see referenced in
message board. We are just growing so fast, I can hardly
keep up. Thank you all so much for all of your support,
kind words and contributions!
8/11/04 - Added "House Histories" photo album. We are
trying to gather photos and histories of houses in Tampico.
If you have information or more photos to share, please
contact me at ddm1050@hotmail.com This is an extension of
the TAMPICO HISTORICAL PRESERVATION committee. Thank you.
8/11/04 Added petition in MESSAGE BOARD asking for your
participation!
8/11/04 - OBITS added: Sarah (Lewis) Smith, Ethel Smith,
Cornelia McGonigle
8/12/04 - Added "Marriages" - indexed in the History &
Biography section
8/12/04 - Added article on Smith Hardware store in
ARTICLES/HISTORY section. Discusses purchase from Smith to
Darby.
8/12/04 - Added new catagory - Tampico Tornado Articles.
This is in addition to the Articles/History/Obits catagory
listed under the HISTORY & BIOGRAPHIES on home page.
Eventually I will consolidate these two, but thought it
more important to get the articles posted for now.
8/12/04 - New catagory - Anniversaries added
8/14/04 - Added BIOS on MacKenzie (x2) and Springer in
BIOGRAPHIES
8/18/04 - List of Civil War Vets buried in Whiteside Co.
Cemeteries (pdf format)
8/18/04 - Added new catagory under History & Biographies -
Whiteside County Index. This will lead to the Historical
Information on Whiteside County page with an array of
subjects.
8/18/04 - Added BIO on Wm H. Harrison
8/19/04 - Posted on MESSAGE BOARD a request for
Transcribers
8/31/04 - Added the NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PLACES -

this registry and historical facts about each building.

8/00/04 - Added "Past & Present of Bureau County" It is in
process of being transcribed, but I have posted the index.
Access from "History & Biographies" menu on front/home
page.
8/31/04 - WE NOW HAVE 707 PAGES OF FREE HISTORICAL
INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE! ( AND MORE TO COME!!!)
9/01/04 - Added msg on the Village Forum regarding
informing the Tampico residents of what's happening in
