Tampico Historical Society Updates
Aug 10, 2015
August is always my favorite month for the Historical Society! It's time for the Tampico Area Historical Society's annual Potluck meeting. It's one of our favorite meetings. Not only do we feed you, but we always try to bring you a very special program. Please join us on Tuesday, August 25th, at 6 p.m. in the Tampico Community Building, 106 W. Market St., Tampico. Bring a dish to pass and own table setting. Beverage will be provided. Our special guest speaker is Sharon Atkins of Roscoe, IL. Sharon will both educate and entertain you, while dressed in period costume, on the funeral customs during the Victorian era. Bring a dish, bring a friend for a very enlightening evening. Contact: Joan Johnson, 815-622-8705 or garyjoan@thewisp.net or Denise McLoughlin, 815-590-2143 or tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com. Last month we enjoyed hearing Marcia Widolff from the Whiteside County Health Department give a presentation. https://picasaweb.google.com/105896818813466091326/TAHSPrograms2015?authuser=0&feat=directlink
Be sure to visit our WHAT'S NEW? page on our website. You will find a direct link to each new entry for that month: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Whats_New.html We've lost many of our friends and family this year. Be sure to check this page for the new obits added, and from our TABLE OF CONTENTS page, you can click on the OBITUARY INDEX: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Obit_Index.html
The TAMPICO AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY is an all-volunteer organization. We rely on memberships and fund raisers to continue to preserve and archive our rich history and to continue the legacy for generations to come. If you would like to join or renew your membership, or would like to make a donation, please visit our website page: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.com/f/TAHS_MembershipApplication.pdf
Our inter-active Message Board on our website is a great way to make an inquiry regarding ancestors, families or historic events and/or place. You need to 'register' (free). MESSAGE BOARD: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Message_Board.html After you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email to activate your account. If you do not get a confirmation email within 24 hours, please contact me at tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com. It's an unfortunate inconvenience that the 'spammers' have forced upon us. Please feel free to respond to other's posts on the Message Board as well.
Our Facebook page is sort of a 'snapshot' of our website. It is a great way to connect with old friends, or share some memories and photos. https://www.facebook.com/groups/tampicohistoricalsociety/
Our website has over 6,000 pages of photos, articles, documents and history for your viewing pleasure. It can be overwhelming. If you are looking for a specific surname, I recommend you start on our HOME page: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Home_Page.html You will see a 'search box'. enter the surname or subject to see all of the listings that include the name/subject.
We also have the TABLE OF CONTENTS page, which is pretty self-explanatory: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Index.html
And lastly, we have our PICASA WEB ALBUMS, which, unfortunately is not picked up by our search engine. It is, however, indexed by album name on the TABLE OF CONTENTS page (scroll toward the bottom of page). There are 205 Albums available. You can also go directly to the Picasa Web Albums: https://picasaweb.google.com/105896818813466091326 There are two pages of albums (scroll to bottom of page and click on 'more'.
If you would like to contribute photos, histories, genealogies, obits, etc., please send them to me at tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com.
This e-newsletter is sent out automatically to our subscribers - http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Mailing_List.html If your email has changed, please remember to sign up again with the new email address. You can not respond/reply directly to this e-newsletter. Please direct communications to Denise Mcloughlin, tampicohistoricalsociety@gmail.com or to president, Joan Johnson, garyjoan@thewisp.net
Please pass this along to those who may have an interest.
Hope to see you all at our August meeting!
Denise
